Our Naruto Kintoki

Naruto Kintoki grows in Tokushima, where a mild climate meets sandy soil rich in minerals from the sea.
Beneath its vivid crimson skin lies golden flesh — chestnut-like in texture, with a refined sweetness all its own.

Because the ingredient is already delicious, we do as little to it as possible.
At IMONOMI, we let the natural sweetness and aroma of Naruto Kintoki lead, and build our confections around drawing out what is already there.

Our Three Commitments

How we choose our ingredients, how we cut them, how we finish them — every step carries the care Kurio Shoten has built over the years.

01

Letting the Ingredient Lead

We choose ingredients raised by the rich nature of Tokushima, beginning with Naruto Kintoki, and treat what each one brings as the starting point.
Our aim is to let the flavor and sweetness of the ingredient itself come through, adding as little as we can along the way.

Passing Down the Craft

Drawing out that flavor is the work of skill built over decades.
KAKU, steeped in our house syrup; imo-an, kneaded by hand — the methods Kurio Shoten has inherited carry forward into everything new we make.

Sharing Tokushima

What we hope to share through our confections goes beyond taste.
It reaches to the land and climate that raise our ingredients, and the culture that lives alongside them — everything a maker born in Tokushima is uniquely placed to pass on.
We fold that into each confection, one at a time.

Our Origins

Kurio Shoten began in 1929, with the confections of our founder, Tsuneichi Kurio.
He set out to make something no one else could imitate.
Through repeated trial and error, he created Naruto Uzu-imo from sweet potatoes grown in Tokushima — a confection that would come to define Kurio Shoten.

That taste and technique passed to the second generation, Zenshiro Kurio, and the third, Jitsutaro Kurio, carrying a flavor born in Tokushima to Tokyo and then across Japan.
Through changing times, one thing has stayed constant: working with what nature provides, and letting the ingredient speak. Behind it lies a devotion to confection-making that Kurio Shoten has cultivated for close to a century.

Nearly one hundred years since our founding.
The taste, the craft, and the care for our ingredients now carry into a new era — and at the end of that long path stands our new brand, IMONOMI.

Looking Ahead

Keeping nature as it is, and letting the true flavor of our ingredients shine through, now and always.

Kurioshoten’s signature product at our GRANSTA store is “Kaku,” an original confection made by cutting Naruto Kintoki sweet potatoes into bite-sized cubes and soaking them in syrup. Like “Naruto Uzu-imo,” our long-selling product sold for over 80 years since our founding, “Kaku” uses a secret syrup that has been continuously replenished and preserved over generations. This syrup, which draws out the natural richness of the ingredients, was perfected through trial and error by our first-generation owner, and it brings life to every sweet potato confection we make.

The confections at our GRANSTA store are original products available only here. Since everything is handmade, mass production isn’t possible, but our skilled artisans work every day to meet the expectations of our GRANSTA customers.

At Kurioshoten, we have always aimed to make confections that bring out the natural flavor of Naruto Kintoki sweet potatoes, without unnecessary handling. Guided by our motto of “keeping nature as it is,” we hope to continue sharing the gifts and wonder of nature with our customers.
Thank you for your continued support.
